Deal or no deal? Escape package at Sea Pines Resort, Hilton Head

Spanning 5,000 oceanfront acres on the southern tip of Hilton Head Island, The Sea Pines Resort has all the ingredients for a laid-back family getaway: five miles of beach, three golf courses, a racquet club, equestrian center, 20 miles of bike trails and nature paths, and its own forest preserve.

The resort's Escape Package, available for week-long stays through September 10, serves up a 15% discount on weekly vacation rentals.  It also includes a resort credit, free kids' meals and some other extras. But is it a good deal for families? We crunched the numbers to find out.  The package includes:

  • Seven nights in a villa or home (worth $990 for a two-bedroom Heritage Villa)
  • $100 resort credit  (worth $100)
  • Dinner for two kids under 12 ($20/child x 2 kids x 7 days = $280)
  • One round of golf for two kids under 12  ($50/child x 2 kids = $100)
  • One 90-minute dolphin excursion for kids under 12, per paying adult ($10/child x 2 kids= $20)
  • One family portrait session on the beach (worth $125)
  • Choice of eco-tour or activity for two people at The Sea Pines Resort or Historic Honey Horn & Coastal Discovery Museum (average $10/person x 2 people = $20)
  • Access for two guests to the Harbour Town Lighthouse (worth $5/person x 2 = $10)
  • Unlimited use of The Sea Pines Resort Fitness Center (always free)
  • Two hours of tennis per day at The Sea Pines Racquet Club (always free)
  • Wireless internet access in all accommodations (always free)

When we added up the value for all the package components, a seven-night April stay for a family of four came to $1,645.   If you booked the package, the same stay would cost $841—a whopping $804 less. That's a savings of nearly 50%!

Look beyond the 15% discount on the lodging.  What really makes this package are the value-added extras. The free kids' golf and free dinners alone will save you close to $400, and if you use the resort credit toward your other meals you'll chip away even more at your overall spend.

Deal or no deal?  Definitely a deal! With this package, you're saving 15% right off the top. Add in those extras and your savings skyrocket to 50%.

The fine print: The offer is subject to availability.  It requires a Saturday arrival, and a 30% deposit 90 days in advance of your stay. Book online or call 866/561-802 and use promo code "Escape."
