Save up to 30% at Azul Hotels in Mexico

When is a suite cheaper than a standard room? When you're staying at Azul Fives Hotel, the newest addition to a collection of upscale all-inclusive beach hotels on Mexico’s Riviera Maya.  Azul Hotels by Karisma bills itself as "gourmet inclusive," which means no buffets, just à la carte dining all the way. Guest can also enjoy 24-hour room service, beach butler service, and swim-up bars at the pool. Four of the properties welcome families with everything from loaner strollers, Fisher-Price toys, and baby gear to complimentary kids' clubs.  Azul Fives Hotel also boasts roomy suites, rooftop barbecues, "family-style" room service and a kids club that welcomes children as young as six months.

At Azul Fives, kids age 3-12 staying in a standard guest room are charged at a nightly rate of 50% of the adult rate (i.e., if the adult rate is $300, the child's rate is $150).  Stay in a suite, however, and the resort charges a flat rate of $67 per child, per night.  We had our doubts, so we double-checked by calling the reservations center and, indeed, a family of four will pay less for a suite than a regular room. (This isn't the case at all of the Azul properties, although a few of them do have discounted rates for kids. Make sure you read the fine print on the website and call the reservations center if you still have questions.)

You can save even more this spring with the All Seasons Savings offer at participating Azul properties. Book a stay between March 14 and December 22 and you'll save up to 30% off the regular rates for adults. We price-checked a seven-night April stay at Azul Fives for a family of two adults and two kids under 12.  Without the offer, that stay would cost $5,796 in a one-bedroom suite; with the offer, you'd pay $4,256.  That's a savings of $1,540, or about 27%.

Blackout dates apply, and you have to book by April 30.  Book online or call 866/527-4762 and use promo code "all seasons savings."

Note: The US State Department has issued a travel warning for Mexico that focuses on the Northern border region. There has been no such violence on the Rivera Maya, yet anyone traveling to Mexico should, of course, be aware of the situation and read the advisory.
