Already thinking about travel plans for 2011? Hampton Inn is offering a nice deal if you’re willing to plan ahead—and pay up front. Its Any Weekend, Anywhere offer promises 20% off regular rates at 1,800 locations. The discount is good all the way through December 31, 2011, as long as you book by January 31. There are two caveats:  You have to pay when you book your stay, and there are no refunds.

Another possible hurdle: You can't always count on weekend availability when you want to travel. When we checked for a Hampton Inn in San Antonio, we found a property with a pool, fitness center and free daily breakfast just a couple blocks off of the super-festive, pedestrian-friendly RiverWalk. But we had a tough time finding available weekends during Spring Break-hoppin’ March. When we looked further out, into summer, we did find available weekends and solid 20% savings—from $159 a night down to $127.

In Los Angeles, looking at dates as soon as this Feburary, we had no problem getting a lot of weekend options, but the Hermosa Beach property didn't seem to offer the special for our desired dates. Happily, though, the Anaheim property near Disneyland did ($79 a night, down from $99).

Book by January 31 and travel by December 31, 2011. When booking online, click on the "Any Weekend, Anywhere" rates after you enter your dates. Alternatively, you can book by calling reservations at 800/426-7866 (HAMPTON). A full, non-refundable prepayment is required at time of booking. You must book at least seven days ahead of your arrival, and the deal is subject to availability. As usual, blackout dates may apply.
