Spring break may be over for most school kids, but those spring break deals haven't quite dried up yet. The Kimpton Hotel chain, a chain of roughly three-dozen urban boutique-y hotels, is offering a Hello Spring Break! promo, promising 30% off its best rate for spring weekend getaways through the end of May. The offer is usually good for stays between Thursday and Sunday, and comes with a $20 dinner credit.
With artsy lobbies and a mod sensibility, Kimpton wouldn't, at first blush, seem to be a kid-magnet, perhaps instead geared toward young business travelers who just want a nice place to dock their iPod at night. But the chain offers a KimptonKids program that adds some quirky perks: not only free cribs or high chairs for your room, but a welcome gift and a list of kid-friendly neighborhood attractions offered when you check in.They have kid-sized, animal-print robes you can borrow and, for junior hotel reviewers, a little customer reply card for kids to offer their input on future stays.
We checked rates at Oregon’s Hotel Monaco Portland, off Pioneer Square, and found a Spring Break rate of $147 for a King suite—a king bed and queen sofa sleeper in the separate living space—down from $210, indeed a clean 30% savings.
And the hotel sounds fun, too. Housed in a a renovated 1912 building, the Monaco has a free, nightly wine reception in the lobby that also features paint and canvases for everyone to doodle on (including kids, the front desk assured us; they also supply Wii and goldfish for the younger happy-hour set). The hotel even offers free bicycle rentals—a great perk in this pedal-friendly city. The hotel is located within blocks of the faous Powell's Bookstore and the Portland Art Museum, and is within a few miles of the Oregon Zoo and the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry.
The offer must be booked by Thursday, April 29, for stays through May 30. Note that a few of the hotels treat this sale differently, offering it only on weeknights, or swapping in free parking for the dining credit.
