We hate it when great travel deals expire just as the high season kicks off. But that’s not the case with La Costa Resort & Spa (see our review) which is running a 30%-off discount through this spring and well into the summer. Better yet, the resort—located just north of San Diego and an easy drive to the famed Zoo, Sea
World and Legoland—is also throwing in a $50 daily resort credit that you can use toward dining, golf, tennis or the spa.
When the 552-room, Spanish-style resort originally opened in 1965, it catered to Hollywood types. The resort's spa was a huge focus, which went hand in hand with its tennis, golf, and country-club vibe. In the past few years, La Costa has upped its family-friendly factor, opening a kids' club (for ages 6 months and up), a teen club, and a huge water playground that features slides and a beach-entry pool for little ones. The resort is also home to the Chopra Center (as in Deepak) where you can take yoga or meditation classes.
We tested the discount for weekend dates in both May and June, and found a rate of $279 a night for a two-queen-bed room, down from $399—a clean 30% break. One qualifier: The discount doesn't apply to the hefty $22-a-day resort fee. But even so, the savings are enough to bring this classic (but sometimes overpriced) resort down to earth long enough to make it a great deal.
Another thing we like: This deal doesn't come with a lot of rules. There's a two-night minimum stay, but no looming cut-off date. A La Costa spokesperson tells us the deal will be available through the summer, availability permitting. When booking online, use promo code 30SALEROOMS. Or call 800/854-5000 and mention the 30%-off deal.
