Like living large for less? Rosewood Hotels and Resorts, a group of luxury hotels in the US and Caribbean, is running a 3rd-night-free promotion at eight of its properties from January 3 through May 30, 2010. One participating property is Manhattan's venerable Carlyle, a legendary and elegant Upper East Side hotel that opened its doors in 1930 and since then has welcomed US presidents, royalty from around the world, countless Hollywood moguls, and myriad captains of industry. Museum-quality art and antiques fill the public spaces of the Art Deco building, which also boasts a white-gloved elevator service and a 2:1 staff-to-guest ratio. The 188 guest rooms boast marble baths, Louis XVI style furniture, 440-thread-count custom-designed sheets, and twice-daily maid service. Traveling with a tot? Guests have complimentary use of a Silver Cross Balmoral Pram emblazoned with the Carlyle crest.
The pedigree comes at a hefty price, of course: rates start at $990 per night for a Classic Suite with separate sleeping and living areas (the minimum category required for a family of four, since standard rooms feature either one king bed or two twin beds, and rollaways are not permitted). Three nights in a Classic Suite would normally run $2,970. With the More Rosewood promotion, the price tag for three nights drops to $1,980, which lowers the nightly rate to $660 for a savings of $330 per night. Definitely still a big splurge, without a doubt. But if you've got a special occasion planned in the Big Apple, this is a way to experience both incredible luxury and a slice of history for much less than you'd normally spend.

Sorry, but $3,000 for three nights seems like a lot. I respect the Carlyle brand but for less than $250/night I can score a sweet apartment at Radio City or Eastgate Towers on http://www.quikbook.com/
