If you feel the winter chill settling in—and that freeze has been extending to your wallet, too—Kauai has come calling with a batch of Winter Specials of up to 50% off condos and hotels.
One deal that caught our eye: the Aston Waimea Plantation, a collection of restored sugar-plantation cottages on 27 acres, is offering a one-bedroom cottage for $172 a night, down from $287—a 40% savings. Though the place has won raves as a charming and romantic getaway spot, it struck us as kid friendly, too. There's a beach, two pools (one just for kids), plus on-site volleyball, Ping-Pong, croquet and barbecues. Cottages come with full kitchens, TVs and wi-fi. This deal is good for travel through April 2, 2010.
We also liked the look of the Poipu Shores condos, which has sliced 50% off a two-bedroom, two-bath, oceanfront suite. The sale price for a stay in January is $249 a night, down from $498. The 37-unit resort has its own pool and decks, and has access ot the nighboring Poipu Beach resort, with its beach, golf and horseback riding. This deal is good through December 21.
The Winter Specials page also includes money-saving deals on fun activities, such as a $30 discount per person for a whale-watching and snorkeling tour from Holoholo Kauai Boat Tours, which includes lunch. It normally costs $139 for adults and $99 for kids ages 6 to 12, but the deal chops up to $120 off the bill for a family of four.
Be sure to check the dates and rules for each deal. Some are only good for travel through December, while others extend well into 2010.
