Colonial Williamsburg just might be the perfect American
history classroom. The world's largest living history museum may not have pesky textbooks or boring lectures, but there's a whole lotta learning going on. And the best part? Your kids won't even notice they're getting smarter on vacation.
Now through September 3, Colonial Williamsburg is offering a Family Fun Bounce package at its Williamsburg Lodge property. The deal bundles lodging with admission to Colonial Williamsburg plus two other area theme parks for rates starting at $292 a night for a family of four. But is the package really a good deal for families? To find out, we priced a three-night stay in August for a family of two adults and two kids between the ages of 6 and 17.
The Williamsburg Lodge Family Fun Bounce package includes:
- accommodations in a deluxe room with two queen beds at Williamsburg Lodge (normally costs $182.33 per night, so worth $607 for three-night minimum stay)
- three-in-one unlimited access tickets to Colonial Williamsburg’s Historic Area and museums ($46/adult, $23/child, or $138 for a family of four); Busch Gardens (Busch is currently offering adult tickets at the $49.95 kid's price, so worth $199.80 for a family of four); and Water Country USA ($41.95/adult, $34.95/kid, or $153.80 for the family).
- admission to the Colonial Kids Club at Williamsburg, one half-day session per child, per night of stay ($20/session x two kids x three days = $120)
If purchased without the package, the total cost for lodging, attraction tickets, and kids’ club admission would come to $1,218. The package rings up at $875, which saves you $343. That's 28% less than what you'd pay at full price, even before you factor in package bonuses, like the 20% discount at official Williamsburg stores, preferred rates at the spa, and golf that’s either free or half-price, depending on the day, time, and golf course.
Deal or no deal? Huzzah! You'll get to walk among red coats for a lot fewer greenbacks.
