So long, backpacks and jam-packed schedules. Hello, barefeet and wide-open summer days. Nothing puts smiles on kids' faces like a few well-chosen family outings for the summer. We’re turning for inspiration to ParentsConnect Local, whose great events calendar features hundreds of warm-weather happenings in more than 50 cities around the country. Here's a sample of what we found on the summer calendar in Seattle:
Summer Celebration: Head to Mercer Island this weekend for live entertainment, a parade, boat rides, arts-and-crafts street fair, and a children's fun zone with inflatables, face painting, miniature train rides, games, and craft activities. Bellevue Arts Museum ArtsFair: Families are invited for lively entertainment, tantalizing foods, and a KidsFair where children can create bubbles, painting, sock puppets, and more. Exploring the Beach at Low Tide: A Discovery Park naturalist leads an exploration of the intertidal world of sea stars, moon snails, sea anemones and clams on the north beach. Register in advance. Free for kids 6-19. (July 19 8:30am-10:30am; 206/386-4236)
