This summer's deals keep reminding us how much we love recession travel rule no. 11: Always check a destination's tourist board to get the low-down on current deals. The Scottsdale Convention and Visitors Bureau has a batch of summer specials at local and nearby Arizona hotels. The first one that caught our eye is the Gainey Suites Hotel, an all-suites hotel offering a starting rate of $109 a night (down from $149), plus a third or fourth night free, plus a $40 restaurant credit and a parade of munchies (breakfast, evening cocktails and hors d'oeuvres). Then there's the Hyatt Regency Scottsdale (see our review), where a Famaily Vacation rate of $139 gets you loads of discounts and perks, from free breakfast for everyone and free dinners for kids to a free day of kids' camp (the latter is worth $80 on its own). Outdoorsy families, meanwhile, might really dig the Enchantment Resort in Sedona, which boasts a great rooftop deck for stargazing and red-rock gawking. Parents will especially like the free fourth night.
