Bye-bye, frosty winter days. Hello, blossoms and sunshine. Nothing puts a spring in your step quite like a few well-chosen family outings. We’re turning for inspiration to ParentsConnect Local, whose great events calendar features hundreds of spring happenings in more than 50 cities around the country. Here's a sample of what we found on the calendar for Seattle:
Skagit Tulip Festival: View acres of tulips at this month-long festival 60 miles north of Seattle in Skagit Valley. The flat terrain makes it a great place for family biking amid the flowers. Visit the festival's website for a full schedule of events, locations, maps, and information. Free for all ages. (Daily through April 30, 9am-7pm; 360/428-5959)
Jungle Egg Hunt: At this one-day event, kids can hunt for eggs hidden among the flora and fauna of the Zany Rainy Forest exhibit at the Kids Discovery Museum. Free for kids with museum admission. (April 11, 11:30am; 206/855-4650)
Easter Baskets for the Animals: Wander the Woodland Park Zoo and watch as gorillas, elephants, grizzlies, and other animals nibble on Easter baskets lined with flowers, berries, and other favorite treats. Free for all ages with paid admission. (April 11, 10am-2pm; 206/548-2500)
Climate Day for Kids: An Earth Day celebration at Olympic Sculpture Park’s sculpture garden includes "green" art-making activities and games and exhibits that teach families how to reduce their carbon footprints. Free for ages 3 to 19. (April 18, Noon-3pm; 206/332-1377)
