There's a lot for families to like about The Homestead in Hot Springs, Virginia. The historic grande dame features a top-notch spa, world-class golf course, nightly movies shown in its own theater, and an award-winning kids' club. The resort is known for its luxurious, traditional surroundings and an extensive roster of activities, from carriage rides, bowling, and horseback riding to skeet shooting and fly-fishing. Most of these activities are not included in the room rate.

Good news for bargain hunters: The Homestead is kicking off a 72-hour sale tomorrow at 10am EST (ends Friday, April 24, at 10am EST) with what it is calling an "unprecedented offer": Book a two-night stay and get a third night free. While this deal isn't unprecedented in the hotel industry (we see 3rd-night-free offers popping up frequently nowadays) it's quite possible that this is unprecedented for the Homestead.

When we pricechecked a weekend stay in July, we found that rooms start at $245 a night—so getting one night free means significant savings.

Note: The Homestead is also offering a Family Fun package that lets kids 12 and under eat free and gives a 50% discount on outdoor activities and admission to the kids' club. An active family of four planning to partake in many activities and use the kids' club could save even more with this deal over a three-day stay.
