It’s always great when a hotel throws in a few free tickets to a kid-friendly attraction. But Oregon’s La Quinta Portland Convention Center really ups the value ante with its Spring Break Special. The deal includes:
- room at the La Quinta-Portland Convention Center (average room rate is $145; lowest we saw was $119 a night)
- admission for four to the Oregon Zoo (normally costs $32 with two kids 3 and up) or admission for four to the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (normally costs $40 with two kids 3 and up)
- free breakfast (always free, so adds no extra value)
Spring events at the zoo include a Red Ape exhibit, as well as a rainforest installation that gets you up close to a green anaconda. The museum is offering a scientific look at DaVinci's art this spring, as well as its standing selection of kid-friendly features such as a motion simulator, laser show, and planetarium (some of which require separate admissions of up to $5). Meanwhile, it's a short walk from the hotel to shop at Oregon’s biggest mall or take in the Portland Rose Festival (held in June), or you could just make good use of the hotel's 24-hour, indoor pool. There's also a fitness center and free in-room high-speed Internet access.
Deal or no deal? When we price checked this package online, the deal got even better. When booking the spring break package, a room with two queen beds, microwave, and fridge can be had for $104 a night for a weekend stay, compared to $125 a night for the same room and dates without any package. Wow—they’re literally paying you to go to the zoo. By signing up for the deal, you'll save $21 or more on the rate even before setting eyes on an ape. Add in the value of the zoo tickets, and this package adds $53 in value to an overnight stay.
