Up to 60% off at La Costa Resort & Spa this spring

The salubrious La Costa Resort & Spa, located in Carlsbad, California, has a lot to offer families (see our review), from plush accommodations to a huge menu of activities. For kids, there's a 4,000-square-foot children's activity center called Kidtopia and spectacular pool area. For parents, there's golf, tennis, and a world-class spa. The resort was named to the Travel Channel's "Top 10 Fun Family Resorts in the US."

For visits through May 15, La Costa is offering a Spring Value special that delivers up to 30% savings on standard rooms and 60% savings on suites. After the discount, rates start at $223 for a plaza room and $359 for a Villa Studio, which comprises a kitchen, living room and separate bedroom. There is a two-night minimum stay and the deal doesn't include tax or the $22-a-day resort charge. (Honestly, for once we'd love to see a hotel deal that wipes out the dreaded resort fee.)

In addition to the discount on the room, this package offers significant savings on select resort activities. This can add up to a big deal at La Costa. The resort offers a slew of activities, with something going on all the time—guided morning walks, exercise classes, tennis clinics, yoga, kids’ golf camps, arts and crafts, and even meditation. Most activities are either free or cost less than $10, but a few key amenities—like the kids' club—are quite pricey. The list of discounts in the spring break package includes:

  • 25% off Kidtopia registration, which usually costs a hefty $50 for a half-day session. If you sign up two kids for a morning or afternoon, you'd save $25.
  • 50% off breakfast for kids. Let's say that's worth about $22 per day for two kids.
  • 35% off golf. Greens fees cost $175 (Mon-Thurs) to $185 (Fri-Sun), or $100 any day after 1pm. You'd save $61 if you booked a weekday morning tee time.
  • 30% off spa services. This is worth at least $35 if you indulge in a classic massage, and possibly more.
