Most of us know about Gettysburg’s place in our nation's history, but its actual location might not come to mind as quickly.  Nestled in the hills of south-central Pennsylvania, the area has plenty of options for active winter play, including skiing, boarding, and tubing.   Now through March 7, the Wyndham Gettysburg is offering a Family Snow Tubing Package that includes passes to Liberty Mountain and its 15 snow-packed tubing lanes. This package promises a 25% savings and offers a choice of accommodation ($189 in a king room or $239 in a suite) for a Friday or Saturday night stay. Does it make sense for families? Let’s do the math. The package includes:

• One night of accommodations (normally $99 for a king room or $169 for a suite)
• Four two-hour snow tubing tickets to Liberty Mountain's Boulder Ridge (worth $88 on a Saturday)
• Four movie passes to the adjacent Gateway Theaters (worth $30)
• 20% food discount at the hotel's 1863 Restaurant (for a family of four, let's say $20)
  

If purchased separately, the elements of this package would be valued at $237 if you stayed in a king room (so the package saves $48, or 20%) or $307 for a suite (the package saves $68, or 22%). By our calculations, this doesn't quite deliver a 25% break, as advertised.

For this package to be a good value, you would need to work all the elements into your itinerary. Can and will you squeeze in two hours’ of tubing, a movie, and a dinner into a 24-hour stay? It's doable, if you time your arrival and departure right—perhaps starting with an afternoon movie and dinner, and saving tubing for the morning. 

Deal or no deal?  If you work in all three activities, then this package can make for a fun, good-value getaway. Otherwise, not snow much.
