Who says autumn has to mean leaf-peeping? If you want to cling to summer for as long as possible, think about heading to the barrier islands off the Georgia coast. The Jekyll Island Club Hotel (see our review) was created in 1886 as a hunting retreat for America’s elite industrialists. Restored in 1986 to its original elegance, this National Historic Landmark offers golf, tennis, 9 miles of beach, 20 miles of bike paths, croquet, horseback riding—and some nice fall weather. Now through November 30, you can book the resort's Family Beach Bed and Breakfast Package and get a room with two double beds, a breakfast buffet for two adults and up to two children, a pail full of beach gear, and a logo-embossed beach towel. Rates start at $219 per room, per night, Sunday through Thursday, and are good for two adults and up to two children 17 and under. Didn't stop at two kids? Each additional under-17er costs an extra $20 per night.
