 Flatscreen TVs? Granite bathroom countertops? Free HBO? Could this be the new look of budget chains like Motel 6, Super 8, and Red Roof Inn? According to this report, all three chains have started a transformation toward retro-hip decor and upgraded amenities. While the look and feel will undoubtedly fall well short of deluxe (think IKEA, not Pottery Barn), it's still a big step up from the cliched vision of budget hotel chains. And you can't argue with the price. The average room at a Motel 6 costs less than $50 a night.
